The money argument for booking direct is straightforward and we have made it elsewhere: you save 10–20% because you are not paying a platform’s guest service fee.
This post is about the other reason, which we think matters more.
When you book through a platform, the first real conversation you have with your host is usually after the money has changed hands. The system is built that way. You pick from photographs, you pay, and then you find out whether the house suits your group.
We would rather do it the other way round. Message us before you book. Tell us ages, mobility needs, pets, how many cars, and what the trip is for. A wedding weekend, a reunion, a sports tournament and a work trip need different things from a house, and we would rather know which one you are.
Then we tell you honestly whether the home works for you.
That last part is the bit platforms cannot do. If you are travelling with a grandparent who cannot manage a step, we will tell you about the single step into the game room and how to avoid it. If someone is recovering from surgery, we will talk you through the 34-inch doorway, the one-piece flooring with no transitions, and the fact that we do not have roll-in showers. If we think the house is wrong for your group, we will say so and you will have lost nothing.
What we can arrange when we know in advance: a cot, a high chair, children’s dishes, a private chef through yhangry to cook for twelve in the kitchen, groceries stocked before you arrive, airport transport, early check-in or late check-out. Some of it costs, some of it does not. All of it is easier before you book than after you arrive.
